There has been a great deal of discussion about voting systems in the security community following the well documented problems with electronic voting systems in recent American elections, notably those of 2000 and 2004. A new system promises dramatic improvements in the security of voting systems. The Punchscan voting system looks like a big step in the right direction.

To strike an even bigger blow for democracy, the Punchscan system should be extended so that it can support Instant Runoff Voting (aka Ranked Choice Voting).
